Canada Labour Code Consultations

The federal government has launched consultations on the modernization of the Canada Labour Code.
The Government of Canada is updating federal labour standards to make sure they reflect the realities of today’s workplaces and meet the needs of both employers and employees. The consultation The consultation on federal labour standards is open to all Canadians and addresses the full spectrum of the Labour Code.
Federal labour standards establish the basic rights of employees in federally regulated industries —such as banking, telecommunications and interprovincial and international transportation. These basic rights are related to:
- hours of work and wages;
- annual vacations, holidays and leaves;
- termination of employment, severance pay; and
- other working conditions
CPHR Manitoba, together with the provincial member associations and CPHR Canada, is striving to become more involved in the public policy process at all levels of government.
The Government of Canada knows that as workplaces evolve, so too must the labour standards in those workplaces. It is important that we collectively have the human resource profession’s expertise shared in this type of consultation.
