As of today, we are starting a new conversation about Human Resources.
We know that we want HRMAM and CHRP to be seen as
+ helping business achieve their goals.
+ paving the road to excellence.
+ improving culture.
+ enhancing performance.
+ establishing a framework for outstanding performance.
+ caring.
+ ensuring health and safety.
+ helping people love their jobs.
To do this, we needed to critically ask ourselves:
‘What do these things have in common?’
‘Why do people go into the field of Human Resources?’
The answer is Leadership.
That’s why, in preparation for this meeting we asked our members, what does leadership mean to you?
Here are some of the answers: Leadership is:
• Encouraging and motivating others to achieve their potential (GREAT - theoretically simple, but very difficult in practice)
• Using the greatness in you to achieve & sustain extraordinary outcomes by engaging the greatness in others.
• If an organization has strong leaders, performance management systems are less vital. GREAT leadership is giving regular and meaningful feedback.
• Leadership is never about you, it’s about those on your team; inspiring, coaching & mentoring them to victory and doing their best.
• Not ordering people what to do but inspiring them to do what they do better.
So, in response, HRMAM has adopted the following:
CHRP is Leadership at Work.

As we move forward through the process of seeking legislation to self-regulate, as we introduce ourselves more strongly to the business community, as we work with educators across the Province, and as we represent our membership, ourselves and our profession, we want people to know that: if you’re looking for leadership look to a CHRP.
We know that HR demonstrates leadership everyday, in the creation of systems that allow individuals and teams to shine.
We are leaders in ensuring the health and safety of people as they go about their daily work.
We exemplify leadership in our ethical, professional dealings in sometimes challenging personal situations.
And we help create a culture of leadership in our workplaces through our actions and our examples.
Leadership at Work gives CHRPs the mandate to step into a leadership role at whatever level they are in their career.
It signals to employers and coworkers that they are committed to their role and to improving the group environment.
Leadership at Work can be seen and presented as a characteristic that CHRPs personify and as an outcome that they deliver across the organization - enhancing the capacity or leadership among others.
For employers, if you want Leadership at Work, you want a CHRP. You know that the person with this designation maintains a high degree of diligence, and cares about their performance and their reputation. They are willing to accept responsibility and do what they can to improve the workplace, enhancing leadership at every level.
