The association is the professional regulatory body for the CPHR designation in Manitoba. It operates under the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources Act.

Does CPHR Manitoba offer consulting services or provide HR advice?

  • No, CPHR Manitoba does not offer consulting services or HR advice to its members. We have a section on our website dedicated to providing various resources and news. If you are interested in consulting services, or offer consulting services and would like to be added to the Consultants' Directory, more information can be found on our website here

Becoming a Member

Do I have to be an HR professional to join?

  • You do not have to be an HR professional to join. In addition to HR professionals, our membership includes professionals from a variety of disciplines.

When can I sign up for membership?

  • CPHR Manitoba's membership year is June 1 - May 31 annually. You can sign up for membership at any point to access the benefits of membership (with the exception of February). Two great times to consider joining are:
    •  March 1: Sign up and receive up to 15 months of membership for the 12-month fee!
    • December 1: Sign up for up to 6 months of membership for half the annual fee!

How do I sign up for membership/how long does it take to become a member?

  • To sign up for membership, click here. Once you have created an online profile, submitted payment, and completed the Good Character Attestation, we will review your account for approval. Approval takes no longer than 1-2 business days once payment has been received. Should any additional information be required, the member services team will contact you directly.

What membership do I register for?

  • Student Membership: Full-time students (non-CPHR and non-CPHR Candidates only): A student member rate is available to full-time students enrolled in an undergraduate program at the time of their membership application. Applications for student membership must include proof of enrolment. 
    • We require an unofficial transcript, letter or copy of your course schedule from your school confirming your current registration in the educational institution. All documentation must include your name as well as the program and course details.
    • Recent graduates: anyone who completed their HR program within the past 12-months can apply for regular membership at half the annual rate by completing the online form found on the registration page. An official transcript must be sent to CPHR Manitoba directly from your post-secondary to verify eligibility. 
  • Regular Membership: Any person actively working in or seeking a role in HR. 
  • Associate Membership: Any person with an interest in, but not actively engaged in, the practice of Human Resources (i.e. lawyer). 

Can I transfer or cancel my membership?

  • As per section 11 of CPHR Manitoba’s Constitution & Bylaws, membership is owned by the individual: 11. The membership of a member in the Association and all rights and interests incidental thereto shall not be transferable, either directly or indirectly.
  • Memberships run June 1 - May 31 of each year and cannot be cancelled early (unless terminated by CPHR Manitoba due to breach of the Code of Ethics and Rules of Professional Conduct). As such, there are no refunds on membership.

Collection of Information

CPHR Manitoba is the professional regulatory body for the CPHR designation in Manitoba. It operates under the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources Act. Some information submitted through your membership is required but only some aspects (such as your professional address) will be available to the public. Other aspects of your registration help CPHR Manitoba to better support you as a member.

 

Professional Address

  • As per Bill 233 - The Chartered Professionals in Human Resources Act, a listing of members is available online to the public. A copy of the public registry containing your general location, membership type and standing and name is available online here. Upon request, a registry containing your full professional address may be made available to the public by appointment to CPHR Manitoba. 

What if I do not currently have a professional address?

  • It is required by legislation that your professional address be on file and up to date at all times with CPHR Manitoba. If you work as an independent consultant or from home and do not have a professional address, you may purchase and utilize a PO box address. 

The Code of Ethics and Rules of Professional Conduct (The Code)

 

What is The Code?

  • All members of CPHR Manitoba must abide by our Code of Ethics and Rules of Professional Conduct
  • The Code identifies and outlines the standards of behaviour to fairness, justice, truthfulness, and social responsibility for all CPHR Manitoba members. As part of the registration/renewal process, you will be asked to declare that you commit to adhere to The Code.This commitment demonstrates your commitment to upholding a high ethical standard as a professional. 
  • As per Bill 233, the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources Act, all members are subject to the complaints and discipline process outlined on our website here during their time as a member and up to 5 years after their membership lapses. 

Why do I have to complete a Good Character Attestation?

  • The purpose of having a good character requirement is to protect the public interest, promote and maintain the high ethical standards of the profession, and maintain public confidence and safeguard the reputation of the profession. Any information received from members related to the GCA will be safeguarded and not distributed in any way.

  • CPHR Manitoba will use nine questions to verify the good character of new applicants. If you answer 'yes' to any of the questions, CPHR Manitoba will follow up by email asking for additional information before you can be approved for membership. For more information about the GCA, click here.

Self-Identification Questions - why is CPHR Manitoba collecting this data and are these questions mandatory?

  • One of CPHR Manitoba's values is inclusion. This value reflects our view that diversity is good for business and emphasizes the importance we place on leading by example. We believe in increasing diversity, equity and representation across our organization, providing tools and resources to our members and encouraging our stakeholders to do the same.

  • This data will inform us about the diversity of our members and will help to ensure that we are inclusive and accessible to all in our work and offerings. 

  • Your response to each question is voluntary. We collect data on gender and age range which are not visible in your online member profile. We also ask for your preferred pronouns which are visible in your profile to inform other members utilizing the member directory how you prefer to be addressed.

 

What information is public/does CPHR Manitoba provide information about a member?

  • CPHR Manitoba does not give out information about its members contained in the private sections of one's profile. Members have access to each other's contact information via the online member directory, although they are strictly forbidden from using this information for marketing purposes as per the Member Directory Use policy. Any information shared in the Member Directory are labelled as such during registration and through your online profile. 

Payment Options

 

What methods of payment are accepted?

There are two options for payment: 

Bill me – to receive an invoice by email and pay by cheque or submit to your employer for payment

Credit card – Visa Credit card or MasterCard

  • It is imperative that the billing address you enter be the same as the credit card's billing address. This is a security process for the bank which we cannot over-ride. If you use two different addresses your card will be charged at the time of purchase and the transaction will be reversed by the bank after 3-5 business days.

How can I request my employer to pay my membership dues?

  • When checking out on the payment page, select the 'Bill Me' option to have an invoice automatically emailed to you. Alternatively, use this template letter to request reimbursement of your CPHR Manitoba membership dues from your employer.

Maintaining my Membership

When does my membership come up for renewal? How do I renew?

  • Our membership year runs June 1 to May 31. Membership renewal begins March 1. As per our bylaws, renewal (including payment) is due by May 31. CPHR Manitoba offers customizable payment plans and renewal dues assistance at the time of renewal.These annual fees are separate from any professional fees associated with pursuit of the CPHR designation and application processes associated with your pathway to becoming designated.

How do I make changes to my online profile?

  • Log in and click on your name in the top banner and then click on 'Account & Settings'.
  • Note: if your name has changed, please contact Member Services at hello@cphrmb.ca with a copy of an official document (i.e. marriage license) outlining the change. 

Where can I find my CPHR Manitoba payment invoices?

  • Log in and click on your name and then click on 'Invoices'.

I am moving. Can I transfer my membership to another HR association?

  • Your membership is NOT transferable across provincial associations. However, your CPHR status can be transferred to your membership with another provincial association. If you are a CPHR or CPHR Candidate, more information regarding the transfer process can be found on our website here

Can an employer transfer a membership from one employee to another?

  • No. Membership is completed on an individual basis and cannot be transferred between individuals.

Do I need to maintain my membership in order to keep my designation?

  • Yes. To remain designated as a CPHR or CPHR Candidate, you must maintain membership in good standing with CPHR Manitoba. Membership is an annual fee subject to your designation status at the time of registration/renewal. You can find more information about the requirements for maintaining your designation here.

What do I do if my answers to the Good Character Attestation change?
