Happy Holidays from CPHR Manitoba!

December 18, 2019

We had another great year at CPHR Manitoba! In 2019, we saw continued success in advancing our four strategic plan goals:

  • Position the Association and profession as thought leaders with significant influence:

In 2019, CPHR Manitoba continued to target business leaders and potential CPHRs. Our strategic partnerships and sponsorships gave us a platform to showcase the value of HR. This level of outreach helped us elevate our brand awareness and helped to increase demand for CPHRs in the workplace.

We have also been connecting with students across Manitoba – educating them about the HR industry, the CPHR designation and becoming a member of CPHR Manitoba. This year, we attended numerous career fairs, sponsored networking events, and facilitated information sessions about the CPHR designation. We also added two more accredited post-secondary programs:

- University of Manitoba Bachelor of Arts (Advanced Major and General Major in Labour Studies)

- Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology Post-Graduate Certificate in Human Resources Learning and Development

  • Promote the CPHR brand:

Our branding platform for CPHR Manitoba and the CPHR designation continues to grow and be recognized by our stakeholders. According to the Manitoba Chamber of Commerce’s 2019 Business Outlook Survey, awareness of the CPHR designation increased from 43% in 2018 to 62% in 2019, with 76% awareness in Winnipeg. Also, 75% of respondents from organizations with 26+ FT employees reported that the CPHR designation would be valuable to their organization. Finally, four out of 10 respondents reported that HR is a vital strategic and leadership function, and a further 28% felt that HR is both a vital strategic and leadership and operational function.

  • Grow the membership to 2,500:

In 2019, we recorded our highest number of members in the history of the organization. We continue to invest in the marketability of the CPHR designation, which resulted in us recording our highest ever number of CPHR candidates as well. CPHR Manitoba is rolling out an outreach campaign to students, potential and current members of CPHR Manitoba to show how the CPHR designation can help them enhance their HR careers. This will be the primary role of the Membership Engagement Coordinator, a new position at the organization we created this year.

  • Become self-regulated:

CPHR Manitoba continues to work with connections in the provincial government in regard to self-regulation. We also continue to educate the membership about what it means for our organization and the HR profession to be self-regulated. According to the 2019 Members as Owners Survey, 64% of the membership are in support of CPHR Manitoba working toward self-regulation and another 33% were undecided and wanted more information about it.

  • CPHR Canada and CPHR Manitoba:

This year, CPHR Canada traveled across Canada working with stakeholders to review the CPHR competency framework looking to the future of our profession and the competencies needed for HR professionals. The conversations that came out of these meetings truly was both interesting and inspiring. We are excited to hear more information about this is 2020.

CPHR Manitoba participated in CPHR Canada’s third annual Day on the Hill to reinforce that CPHR Canada is the national voice for HR and advocate for employers and government alike to recognize and hire designated HR professionals.CPHR Manitoba continues to be contracted by CPHR Canada to manage the National Knowledge Exam and support CPHR Canada in other operational functions and marketing initiatives.

  • Looking forward to 2020:

As we continue to move forward with our goals and our mission in 2020, we look to you, our members, to be ambassadors of our Association. CPHR Manitoba’s presence and impact in the HR industry is supported by you – help us share our message, extend our brand and carry on the important conversation around self-regulation by supporting your peers and educating your colleagues.

Thank you to our board, staff, committees, strategic and education partners, suppliers, sponsors and members – our past successes, ongoing achievements and driving force in the HR industry couldn’t be possible without your dedication and support!

We wish you all a joyous, healthy and happy holiday season and look forward to welcoming 2020 together.

Sincerely,

Ron Gauthier
