CPHR Manitoba will recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

September 8, 2021

CPHR Manitoba is committed to supporting national efforts toward reconciliation, including the federal government’s recent decision to make September 30 the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. In June, the House of Commons unanimously passed legislation to make September 30 a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to commemorate the history and ongoing trauma caused by residential schools and to honour the survivors, families and communities who continue to grieve.

As the voice of the Human Resources profession in Manitoba, we strive to be representative of all people living in this province. We are leading by example in enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion by recognizing The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a designated closure at CPHR Manitoba. We also encourage Manitoba’s employers to use this day to reflect on the tragic history and ongoing legacy of residential schools, either through personal reflection or alongside community.

Beginning with learning the truth is critical to moving forward with reconciliation. It is imperative that we all take time to understand Indigenous history and work toward a better Canada for all peoples. Education is key, and we all must endeavour to learn and unlearn every day. If you are not sure where to begin, read the history of residential schools, Survivors’ stories, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC)’s 94 Calls to Action.
