National HR Trend Survey - Results are in!

March 8, 2023

This survey demonstrates ways to offset inflation and highlights increased workload for HR professionals

A group of HR associations across Canada came together to conduct a HR Trends Survey using the third-party survey company, Leger. We are pleased to share the results of the National HR Trends Survey, which was conducted to better understand:

·      HR salaries, benefits, and other compensation

·      Job responsibilities

·      Recruitment, Engagement, Retention & Turnover

·      Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

·      HR Technology trends

Not only is it imperative to gain better insights into the HR profession, but it is also important to get a better handle on the challenges HR professionals are experiencing, as well as understanding the measures organizations have implemented to improve employee experiences.

Key National Insights Include:

·      95% are proud of the work done as an HR professional.

·      75% of HR professionals presently hold an HR designation, and 1-in-7 are either in the process of obtaining their designation or are currently a candidate.

·      98% respondents are facing recruitment and 95% retention challenges.

·      91% have seen increase in workload over past 12 months. Only 37% have received additional support.

·      79% respondents report at least a slight improvement on employee engagement as a result of their rewards and recognition program.

·      60% have implemented a DEI strategy, 16% are planning to.

·      39% have implemented some HR digital transformation initiatives, 13% of respondents are planning to.

We are happy to see that 98% of HR professionals are staying on top of their professional development having spent an average of 45 hours in the past year.

Unfortunately, over the past year, recruitment has been very or extremely challenging for 6 -in-10 HR professionals. Additionally, one-in-three cite employee retention as being very or extremely challenging in the past year.

While there is lots of work to do in the DEI landscape there are some positive findings as well. Nearly one-fifth say there has been significant to extreme improvement in diversity, equity, and inclusion since their organization began measuring them.

These are just a few of the valuable insights CPHR Manitoba will be using to influence our policies and programs. The full CPHR Manitoba results are available to members on the website here as well as highlights of the national results here.
