Happy Holidays from CPHR Manitoba!

December 19, 2022

The HR profession remains at the forefront and is still being relied upon to lead organizations through another year of change and uncertainty. I would like to acknowledge the hard work of HR professionals who continue to work through uncertainty and rise through challenges, who continue to guide businesses and embrace change to lead HR forward.

This past year, CPHR Manitoba introduced an Aspirational, Diversity, Equity and, Inclusion Statement which can be viewed here. As the voice of the Human Resource profession in Manitoba, we encourage Manitoba’s employers to enhance their diversity, equity, and representation, and we support our members with tools and resources to affect positive change in their workplaces.

Once again, this year, CPHR Manitoba’s activities looked a bit different with our staff primarily working from home all year, with a mix of virtual and in-person events. We enjoyed connecting with members at our HR Excellence Awards 2022, Annual General Meeting, and HR Conference 2022. The association had a good year making progress under each pillar of our strategic plan – promote the CPHR brand, support CPHR development and foster public confidence in CPHRs

Promote the CPHR brand

CPHR Manitoba continued to work with numerous strategic partnerships including with the Chambers of Commerce throughout the province. We continued to invest time and resources into reaching potential CPHRs through LinkedIn Recruiter and ongoing student relations efforts at our partner post-secondary programs. We wrapped up our campaign with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers where we were the presenting sponsor of their employee recognition program.

Support CPHR Development

We celebrated our HR Excellence Awards 2022 on June 1, 2022. This event was a great way to see our members and celebrate their achievements. Once again, we wish to congratulate all the nominees and award recipients! We returned to an in-person conference this year. It was a great pleasure to see so many of our members in-person at the conference this past October. The conference was a success with 258 attendees from across Manitoba.

We continued our programs focused on career development: Walk & Talk, Community Building Groups, Campus Ambassador Program, and a new developmental stream for our long-running Mentorship program. These programs continue to be a success with even more members signing up each year. We continued to partner with CPHR BC & Yukon to offer webinars. The updated competency framework has been incorporated into the National Knowledge Exam (NKE). The updated Validation of Experience (VOE) will be incorporated in the March 2023 VOE intake.

Foster Public Confidence in CPHRs

We continued to work with the government on moving our self-regulation submission forward this year. We look forward to sharing more updates about this in the coming year!

Looking Forward to 2023

We see a bright future ahead for the HR profession. Businesses will continue to evolve and adapt to new ways of working, and CPHRs are best equipped, through their education, experience, and expertise, to help shape the future of work. CPHR Manitoba’s presence and impact in the HR industry is supported by you – help us share our message, extend our brand and carry on the important conversation around self-regulation by supporting your peers and educating your colleagues about the value of HR.

A deeper focus on fostering pride in our CPHRs will see us expand our brand ambassadorship efforts from last year. Among the plans is a ‘toolkit’ to help our members promote their designation and speak credibly about the importance of being designated, why they (and others) are designated, and the importance of self-regulation. This provides another opportunity to educate members about professional designations and the evolving nature of designations to meet business demand.

We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming in-person events in 2023 like the HR Excellence Awards 2023 on April 20, the 2023 HR Legislative Review and other conferences and events. CPHR Canada will be hosting a free virtual event for International HR Day on May 19, and we look forward to sharing more information about this with you next year. We will also be sharing the results of the Canada HR Trends survey in 2023. We will continue meeting with ministers and MLAs in the coming year in hopes to have self-regulation legislation drafted.

Thank you to the board of directors, the volunteer committees, our partners, sponsors, and advertisers. We would also like to thank our members for continuing to be great stewards of the profession. We wish you all a safe and happy holiday season and look forward to welcoming 2023 together!

Sincerely,

Ron Gauthier
