The Trauma-Informed HR Professional

This training is designed to empower HR professionals with the knowledge and tools to apply a trauma-informed lens in their work.

Participants will explore the fundamental concepts of trauma-informed practices, including understanding what a trauma-informed lens is and recognizing the benefits of incorporating it into the workplace. The course will also address the risks associated with neglecting this approach. Attendees will learn how to identify trauma and trauma responses in employees, gaining insights into the signs and behaviours that may indicate trauma.

Furthermore, strategies to navigate scenarios and situations where trauma arises will also be explored and unpacked effectively and sensitively. The role of HR professionals in creating a supportive, safe, and psychologically secure work environment will be emphasized, highlighting how they can lead the integration of trauma- informed practices to foster a more compassionate and resilient organizational culture.

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Understand Trauma-Informed Practices: Define and explain the key concepts of trauma-informed care and its relevance in the workplace.

  2. Identify Signs of Trauma: Recognize the signs and behaviours indicative of trauma and trauma responses in employees.

  3. Implement Supportive Strategies: Develop effective strategies for addressing trauma-related scenarios in the workplace, ensuring sensitivity and compassion.

  4. Foster a Resilient Organizational Culture: Articulate the role of HR professionals in creating a psychologically safe work environment and leading the integration of trauma-informed practices.

About the Trainers:


Labiba Majeed R.Psyc

Labiba Majeed is a Registered Psychologist and founder of Elevate Psychology. Labiba specializes in trauma, anxiety and depression and comes with over 10+ years of experience in the mental health field. Labiba has worked in collaboration with the Ministry of Children’s Services, The Brain Injury Clinic and is most recently supporting her clients and community through her private practice. Labiba specializes in a trauma-informed approach paired with her specialization in treating and supporting clientele with PTSD. To this training, Labiba brings the foundational and clinical perspective of having a trauma-informed approach and the valuable impact that a trauma-informed approach has on the organization and employees.


Susan Cassidy MBA CPHR

Susan Cassidy is a seasoned Human Resource and Labour Relations expert. With extensive experience in both areas, Susan brings her earned wisdom and problem solving skills together to help our clients risk manage any issue to a successful conclusion. In addition to her LR skills, Susan is a workplace investigator and also brings significant board governance experience to our team. Susan is our senior leader for HR investigations and provides exceptional quality assurance and guidance to these cases.


Mona Sikal CPHR, CHE

Mona Sikal is the former (retired) Executive Director of Employee Relations at Alberta Health Services (AHS). She was responsible for leading a team who provide expertise in Psychological Health and Safety; Inclusion, Diversity and Equity, Respectful Workplaces, Conflict Resolution, Investigations and other workplace issues navigation and support. She has spent the last twenty years in leadership roles and is passionate about creating safe, healthy and inclusive work environments. Mona is a Certified Professional in Human Resources (CPHR Alberta) , a Certified Health Executive (CCHL) along with advanced training in Psychological Health and Safety and Trauma Informed Leadership.
